This is my first external hard drive ever so I don't really have anything to compare it to. On my second backup, my mac wouldn't recognize the drive so I bought the USB 2.0 power cable that Western Digital recommended on their website. Make sure you format/partition before backing up a Mac. First time I backed up, I had to reformat. That didn't work right away but it started backing up after I partitioned it. There are helpful instructions on the wd website.
Western Digital 320 GB Passport 2.5" USB 2.0 Hard Drive is Hard and it drives you where ever you want. It is the best Hard Drive that i ever use
I've backed up all of my files, pics, videos and music and I'm not even close to 320gb. It's a great tool to store and transfer files. Bought this passport almost six months ago. I think what I like most is you DO NOT Nneed a separate power source, you simply attach the USB cable to any computer and plug-in play recognizes it and you're able to access your files through Explorer. I also bought the matching case to minimize damage and scratches. I don't think I'll ever reach the max 320 GB. It uses the computer's power to work. Great Portability and Convenience.
I love my lil hard drive got to keep it tucked though it seems real fragile. Its got a pretty decent speed. I dont too much like the softwae package that comes with it. I deleted the whole bundle but its a great accessory drive to have.
Let me explain. So, I'm forced to back everything up, perhaps wise, but that means now I have to have 640GB instead of 320GB for the same files. When I first bought this hard drive I thought "WOW. HOWEVER, what I hate is that often my computer doesn't recognize it, or that it randomly decides to disconnect and reconnect to my computer (in a virtual sense, not physical). So, I have to be selective. I love that it doesn't require an extra plug to get it up and running. I love that it's small and portable. I've owned this product for several months and would like to say that I hate it and love it, all at the same time. It seems the more I disconnect it and reconnect it on another machine, the more problems I have.
But, it's unreliable, more than normal pieces of technology. I can make this like a virtual computer and have access to my files anywhere there is a computer." This has not been the case. So, if you're like me and have a desktop or another hard drive that you can back this up onto or don't wish to use it for your only copy of important documents, then I would go ahead and get it. My solution at this point is to physically disconnect it and connect it until the connection sticks. I love that it's 320GB. I don't just take it anywhere "just in case."So in conclusion, I have to say I love that I can throw this thing in my purse and take it with me to work or vice versa instead of hauling around an entire laptop.
This is particularly annoying when I'm listening to music or moving files around. My fear is that one day I will not be able to access anything on this drive. I love that this little hard drive has more hard drive space than my laptop. Otherwise, you're just waiting for a disaster to occur.
